Young people groups join TLF Share's legal literacy program
Over 100 representatives of children, youth-led and youth-oriented organizations joined a training program on legal literacy organized by TLF Share in partnership with YPEER Pilipinas.
"Legal Literacy for Young Key Population" was part of the Global Fund's Matching Fund for Human Rights project for which TLF Share currently serves as the sub-recipient in the Philippines. Held last May 28 to 31, 2019 at the Makati Palace Hotel, the program drew 130 participants from Palawan province, Ilocos and Bicol regions, and the National Capital Region.
The training provided participants with information on young people's rights, what to do when their rights are violated, or when denied access to needed services. A values clarification session in the program enabled participants to understand entitlements to their right to health such as provision of comprehensive sexuality education and access to health services.
Organizers TLF Share and YPEER Pilipinas hoped that after the training program the participants will be able to cascade the information and learning they gained back to their respective organizations.
This program also intends to help children, youth-led and youth-oriented organizations to better engage with government agencies that serve as duty bearers of children and young people's rights, towards the improvement of delivery of age-appropriate, sensitive services.
