Bringing human legislation back in the Senate
TLF Share’s Statement of Support to the Filing of the SOGIE Equality Bill
Senator Risa Hontiveros has recently filed her first ten bills for the 18th Congress. As she promised at the close of the 17th Congress, the first bill she filed was the SOGIE Equality Bill -- now numbered as Senate Bill No. 159 -- a proposed legislative measure that focuses on respecting, promoting and fulfilling the rights of every individual by laying down measures that addresses stigma, discrimination, inequality and inequity on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE).
TLF Sexuality, Health and Rights Educators Collective (TLF Share) expresses its unwavering support to our Equality Champ, Senator Risa, and legislators allied to her for the passage of this measure. TLF Share remains to be staunch advocates for national and local policies that affirm respect for and guarantee fulfillment of human rights.
The SOGIE Equality Bill has languished for so long in the country’s halls of lawmaking. But the last Congress witnessed the furthest the Bill has reached, only a few steps short of becoming a law. We now reach out to our Congresspersons of the 18th Congress: the time has come to embrace all the colors of the rainbow in the Upper and Lower Houses in recognition of diversity, and respect for individual differences.
TLF Share shares with the rest of the community of LGBT persons, young and old, of various abilities and health statuses, to the furthest reaches of the country, our fervent hopes and prayers, that in this Congress, finally, the SOGIE Equality Bill passes into law. We commit our energies to ensure the voices of our peers and communities are heard in support of SOGIE Equality. We aim to be the wind for Senator Risa’s and our lawmaker-allies’ wings.
